Obituary

Ellen L. "Ellie" (Scadding) Melaugh a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Wednesday November 29, 2006 at Governor Winthrop Nursing Center in Winthrop, following a long illness. She was 72 years old.

Ellie was born in Boston on March 5, 1934. She grew up in Charlestown, where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. She enlisted into the United States Army on November 28, 1952. Ellie served during the Korean Conflict and was discharged as a Private First Class on November 27, 1954. Ellie worked for many years at Dot's Diner as a waitress which was located several years ago in the City Square area of Charlestown. She was also a former City of Boston Meter Maid.

Ellie is the devoted mother of Ellen L. Melaugh of Winthrop, Julie Skinner of Holbrook, Daniel Melaugh of New Hampshire, Nancy Russell of Weymouth , Herbert Melaugh of Brockton and the late Kim Melaugh. She is the loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Joseph, Richard, Robert, John, James, Elizabeth Scadding, Theresa Boutwell and Marion Bird. She is the dear friend of Susan and Pat, and Mike McDonough.

Ellie's Funeral will be held on Monday, December 4, 2006 at 9 am. from The Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Ellie will be held on Sunday December 3, 2006 from 2 to 6 pm. Burial will take place at V.A. National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:15 pm.
