John H. Westgate, 65, of Acushnet died Saturday November 25, 2006 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Sandra A. (Ventura) Westagte.
Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Edward and Althea (Ellis) Westgate, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Westgate was formerly employed by the Maritime Terminal until his retirement.
He was a member of Teamsters Union, Local 59.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Jr. of Fairhaven and Shaun of Dartmouth; two stepchildren, Annemarie and Karl Lamas, both of New Bedford; two brothers, William of Fairhaven and George of New Bedford; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was the father of the late Kathy Steele, and brother of the late Madge Wallace, Sandra Azevedo, Everett and Arthur Westgate.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 6-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Following cremation, a burial service will be held at Tabor Cemetery, Acushnet.
