Obituary

Omer R. Godin, 81 of Medfield and formerly of Franklin died November 27 in his home following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Marie (Wilson) Godin.

Born in Woonsocket Rhode Island on March 9, 1925 the son of the late Ralph and Alice (Landry) Godin, Mr. Godin was raise in Woonsocket and had lived in Franklin for over 40 years. He had lived in Medfield for the past 10 years and had also lived in New Port Ritchey, Florida and Eastham.
Mr. Godin had worked for the Mass Electric company for 35 years, first as a ground man and rising to supervisor when he retired in 1986.

Mr. Godin was a competitive pistol shooter. He was a nationally ranked Master. An avid saltwater surf fisherman on Cape Cod he was past president of the Mass. Beach Buggy Association. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, the Nauset Rod & gun Club of Eastham and a past member of the Blackstone Pistol and Hopedale Rifle and Pistol Clubs. He was an avid bowler. Mr. Godin served in the Marine Corps during World War II., attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He is survived by his son Stephen D. Godin of Avila Beach California, his longtime companion Beverly Nichols of Medfield and his brother Raymond Godin of Phoenix AZ. He is also survived by his granddaughters Michelle and Jennifer and 6 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Edward J. Godin.

His funeral will be held on Friday December 1 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main St. Franklin at 8:15 followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church, Church Square, Franklin at 9:00. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4-8p.m.
