Bertha Hohman, 101, died Tuesday novemeber 21st in the Ellis Nursing Center in Norwood, after a period of failing health. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Hohman.
Born in Brockton, and raised in Whitman, she was the daughter of the late Merrill M and Elizabeth (Belcher) Hatch. She was a graduate of Whitman High School, and Pace College of Accounting..
Bertha worked at the Abington Mutual Fire Insurance Company and then as a real estate and insurance manager for John Matheson of Abington. Eighteen years later she joined Russell Lane ,where she managed his insurance and real estate business, until she retired.
She was very active in social groups in the area, twice serving as Past noble Grand for Vida Rebekkah lodge #43 of Whitman, Lady’s Winthrop Club of Abington, Friendly folks, Senior Citizens Association of Abington and the women’s group of the First Baptist Church of North Abington.
She is survived by her son Merrill Hohman of Norwood, 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. She was also the wife of the late Joseph Hohman, and mother of the late Roger Hohman, sister of the late Walter M. and Randall B. Hatch, Priscilla Flanagan.
Funeral services will be held Friday December 1st at 6:00 P.M. in Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, (Route 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman. Burial will be at a later date.
