Obituary

Mr. James Burnside Smith, beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Melville) Smith, a lifelong resident of Medford died at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester on November 23, 2006. He was 84 years old.
Born in Medford, Massachusetts, on January 3, 1921, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Robert and Sarah (Sellers) Smith. He was a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1940. Mr. Smith was a WWII Marine Corps Veteran. He had been a truck driver for more than 30 years for Spector Freight. Mr. Smith was a former member of the Union Congregational Church and more recently a member of the Community Baptist Church, both of Medford. He had also been a long time Mason and was twice a Past President of the Mt. Herman Lodge. He was also a member of the “GBARR” Greater Boston Association for Retarded Citizens.
Besides his beloved wife, Elizabeth, James will be sorely missed by his loving children and their spouses, Paul D. and his wife Lisa L.Y. Smith of Quincy and Carol A. and her husband Stanley J. Odachowski of Wakefield, six grandchildren; Adam, Katie, Justin, Cameron, Rachel and Alexandra, two sisters; Mary Peters of PA and Margaret Spurr of Medford, two brothers; Kenneth Smith of Medford, Gordon Smith of VT and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late John, Andrew, Douglas, Robert and George Smith William. His funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Monday at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends attended. Visiting hours were Sunday from 4 to 7 PM. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
