Ellen V. (Winsper) Grinnell, 86, of Dartmouth died Wednesday November 22, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Francis N. Grinnell.
Born in New Bedford on January 27, 1920, the daughter of the late John B. and Lillian (Brocklehurst) Winsper, she lived in Central Massachusetts before returning to Dartmouth 30 years ago.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mrs. Grinnell was a graduate of Holy Name School and New Bedford Vocational High School, Class of 1941.
She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. She and her late husband made numerous cross country RV trips during their retirement. She was an accomplished artist, avid crafter, and antiquer.
She is survived by five children, Alan F. Grinnell and his wife Sharon of Santa Rosa, CA, Diane M. Hewitt of Narragansett, RI, Wayne P. Grinnell and his wife Elizabeth of Las Cruces, NM, Daniel J. Grinnell of Winesburg, OH, and Deborah F. Grinnell of New Bedford; two sisters, Regina Erler of Denton, TX and Joan Fournier and her husband Antone of New Bedford; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Mary C. Winsper, Joseph A. Winsper, and Jane M. Hicks.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4-7 PM.
