TEWKSBURY: Anne E. (Cameron) McCarthy, age 73, a resident of Tewksbury for 56 years, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Saints Medical Center in Lowell.
She was the wife of George D. McCarthy, Jr. with whom she would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on January 10, 2007.
Born in Waltham on November 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Effie (Kennedy) Cameron.
Mrs. McCarthy was raised in Boston, where she attended Boston Girl’s Latin School.
In 1950, she moved to Tewksbury and was graduated from Tewksbury High School with the class of 1952.
Mrs. McCarthy served as the national editor of the Historic Naval Ships Association.
For the past 20 years, she researched and contributed numerous articles to several naval publications including “Anchor Watch”
According to her family, her proudest accomplishment was raising her seven children.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons; Daniel E. McCarthy and his wife Faith of North Andover and Steven D. McCarthy of Salisbury; five daughters; Patricia A. Page of Palm Bay, FL, Eleanor M. Canto and her husband John of Dunnellon, FL, Therese L. Savoie of Quincy, Margaret E. Slack and her husband David of Hampton, NH and Catherine M. McCarty of Newburyport; two brothers; William C. Cameron and his wife Eleanor of Wilmington and Donald W. Cameron and his wife Ann of Dracut; also eleven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McCarthy was the sister of the late Walter B. and John C. Cameron
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 2nd, at 11 a.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. At the request of the family there are NO Calling Hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial V.A. Hospital, c/o General Post Fund 9001, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA 01730 are requested.
