DUDLEY – Arline E. (Nichols) Bemis, 80, of 10 Korch Avenue, died Saturday, November 18, in Sunbridge at Sandalwood, Oxford, after an illness. Her husband of 54 years, Donald E. Bemis, died last year.
She leaves a son, Ronald P. Bemis and his wife Valerie of Interlachen, FL; a daughter, Doris A. Bemis of Dudley; a sister, Jean P. Hall of Westborough; 3 grandchildren, Andrew, Danny and Christopher Bemis; and 7 great grandchildren.
She was born and raised in Westborough, the daughter of Arthur and Lucy (Mason) Nichols, and moved to this area in 1956. She was a graduate of Westborough High School, class of 1944.
Mrs. Bemis was a nurse’s aide at Webster District Hospital and also at Oakwood Nursing Home, both in Webster. She then worked in the cafeteria at Shepherd Hill Regional High School for several years before retiring in 1991.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Federated, in Webster and the Eastern Star, Clara Barton Chapter 63. She enjoyed square dancing with the M and M Squares; she met her husband while at a square dance. She also loved camping.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 22, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Stow. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday, Nov. 21, in the funeral home. The Eastern Star will perform their ritual at 7:00 PM Tuesday.
