Obituary

Dr. Thomas P. Cronin, Jr., of Stoneham, formerly of Winchester, died on Saturday, November 18 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy A. (Haker) and the late Ruth E. (Spurr).

Born in Malden, he was the son of the late Thomas P., Sr. and Irene E. (Smith) Cronin. He was raised and educated in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School and Tufts Medical School and Columbia University Medical School. He was associated as a Doctor of Ophthalmology and surgeon with the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary for 36 years and also maintained a private practice in Arlington. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of the Winchester Country Club and a Navy veteran of WWII.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Thomas P. Cronin III of Reading, Robert L. and his wife Cathy of Hyde Park, NY, Susan M. and her husband Skip Mildrum of Freeport, ME. He was the dear brother of the late Irene M. Killilea. Dr. Cronin also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Scott, Ryan, Lauren and Patrick, and many loving nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, November 24th at 1 PM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Cronin’s memory may be made to the Foundation of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary c/o Development Office 243 Charles St. Boston, MA 02114. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
