Alfred A. Landry
Alfred Aurel Landry, died November 15 at CMC after a short illness. He was born in Manchester on November 28, 1920 to Joseph and Maria (Lavoie) Landry. He was a loving husband, devoted father and family man.
He joined the Army National Guard and served during World War II. He was wounded in France and awarded the Purple Heart. He earned his barber’s license and operated Fred’s Barber Shop on Massabesic Street for 20 years. He continued to cut the hair of friends and family until he died. He also cut hair for retired priests at the Bishop Peterson home once a month. He worked at the Manchester Post Office for 19 years until he retired in 1985. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, bowling, playing cards, dancing, and helping his children with construction and renovation projects. He was very religious, attending mass every day once he retired. He served in many functions at St. George Catholic Church, including member of the finance committee. He served as a Eucharistic minister and took pleasure in serving communion to shut-ins. He had a lifetime membership in the following organizations: American Legion William Jutras Post, D.A.V., C.W.V., Purple Heart, and The Precious Blood League of 1000 Men. He donated blood to the American Red Cross regularly, giving over 24 gallons. Survivors include Edna (Wurtele), his loving wife of 64 years, his children Irene Sherburda and her husband Vic of Greenville, Paul and his wife Eunice of Barnstead , Nancy Milligan of Hooksett, David and his wife Connie of Goffstown, Scott and his wife Melissa of Amherst, John and his wife Elizabeth of Barrington, his Grandchildren Jackie Clucas, Jennifer Brennan, Kim Pope, Gregory Milligan, Tracy Milligan, Justine Johnson, David, Jr., Katherine, Brad, Eric, Nicholas, Margaret, and Caroline Landry. He also leaves twelve great grandchildren and two brothers, Lionel and Ernest. He was predeceased by his sister Irene and his brothers Roland and Donald.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 on Friday, November 17, 2006 at J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge Street, Manchester, NH. The funeral will take place at St. Hedwig Church, corner of Beech and Orange Street on Saturday, November 18 at 10:00 a.m.
