Walter E. Stickney Jr, age 79 of Round Pond, Maine, formerly of Salem, NH, died Tuesday at the Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, ME.
He was born in Derry, NH, grew up and was educated in Salem, NH, and graduated from Woodbury High School. Mr. Stickney was a retired self employed contractor.
Mr. Stickney was a World War 2 Army Veteran. He was assigned to the 11th armored division of General Patton’s third army. He was awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in Action during the Battle of the Bulge.
While living in Salem, NH, Mr. Stickney was in the Salem Contractors Association. He was a former Selectman for Salem. He was on the Budget Committee, and on the towns Baseball Team. He was a former volunteer fireman in No. Salem, and a reserve police officer. He was on the board of the Salem Visiting Nurses, and he was chairman of the NH Municipal Association. He is a member of the No. Salem Methodist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife Bertha F. (Downs) Stickney
He is survived by his companion: Fraces Conklin of Round Pond, ME

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 AM at the NO. Salem United Methodist Church, No. Salem, NH. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, No. Salem, NH.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-8 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, NH.
