Obituary

Beverly J. (Arthur) Manning, 75, of Andover, MA died Tues. Nov. 14th at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, MA. Born in Gellespie, IL Aug. 19, 1931, Beverly moved to Andover as child with her parents, the late Donald & Agnes (Campbell) Arthur.

Beverly, fondly known as “Miss Bev”, started her popular home-based dancing school shortly after graduating from Punchard High. Miss Bev enthusiastically provided dancing instruction to several generations, often at little or no charge to families that otherwise could not afford it. Her life long passion, Miss Bev continued to teach dance until shortly before her death.

Beverly’s other career as a waitress included many years at the Den in North Andover until its closing, and continued at Denny’s in Lawrence. Beverly enjoyed treating her customers as friends and was a favorite waitress often requested by patrons.

Of all of her accomplishments, Miss Bev was most proud of her involvement as mentor and advisor to people struggling with substance abuse. Having remained sober for 39 years, she devoted countless hours in helping others with their own struggle. Over the years, many people overcame these difficulties thanks to her guidance and encouragement.

Beverly took great pride in her family. Her four children, Jack, Donna, Joe and Bevi always had her support in everything they did. She was quick to remind her three grandsons that she deeply loved them “from the tip of their toes to the top of their head.”

Beverly was a life long member of Free Christian Church in Andover. She also belonged to the Dance Teacher’s Club of Boston for many years.

Beverly is survived by son John Jr. and his companion Julie of Lawrence, her daughter Donna & her husband Chris Phaneuf of North Andover, son Joseph of Andover and daughter Beverly Jr. of North Andover, grandsons Jeffrey, Christopher and Drew Phaneuf of North Andover. She is also survived by aunts, cousins and numerous close friends. She will be sadly missed by all.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4-8PM at the Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St., Andover. Funeral Services will be Sat. at 10AM at Free Christian Church 31 Elm St. Andover.
