Edward K. Berg Sr. 71 of Franklin died November 12 in the Milford Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was the husband of Shirley (Lyons) Berg for the past 49 years.
Born in Wayland, October 18, 1935 the son of Audrey (Tapley) Lane of East Madison, Maine and the late Leo Berg, Mr. Berg had lived in Franklin for the past 36 years.
Mr. Berg had been a machinist at the FENWAL Co. in Ashland for 17 years before retiring.
He served his country proudly with the US Army from 1953-56 and retired from the US Army National Guard in Framingham after 20 years of service.
Mr. Berg enjoyed bowling, country music and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves his son, Edward K. Berg Jr. and his wife, Wendy of Millbury and his daughter, Cheryl Valof and her husband, Jason of Bellingham. He is also survived by her brother, Leo Berg and his wife, Nancy of Augusta, Maine and his grandchildren, Vincent Colella of Mooresville NC, Timothy Berg of Mooresville NC and Kyle Valof of Bellingham and two great-grandchildren, Michaela and Brandon Colella of Mooresville NC.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, November 16 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main St. in Franklin on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Church Square, Franklin at 9:00. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
