Ethel Sostillio 81 of Walpole died November 10 at the Groden residence in Walpole surrounded by her family.
Born in Boston, Ethel joined the Groden family shortly before they moved to Walpole in 1953. For the past the past 17 years she was employed by Roche Brothers Supermarket in Westwood. For decades, many Walpole residents came to know Ethel as the “Walpole Walking Girl”: she could be seen and recognized from afar by her brilliant white hair as she walked to the bus, to church and to the local stores.
Daughter of the late Alice (Sullivan ) Sostillio, she is survived by her brother Frank J. Sostillio and his wife Margie of Rockledge Fla., she was the sister of the late Alice Bain, Rose McCarthy and Bertha Rose King.
She also leaves her Groden family; Helen (Perrault) Judge of Naples, Fla Anne Wynne and Stephen Groden of Norwood, Christopher Groden of Belfast Maine, Terence Groden of Cambridge, Kevin Groden of Merrimack Mass, Thomas Groden, Monica Smith and Luke Groden of Walpole . Meg Groden and Steven Wood of Randolph, Eleanor Groden of Winterport Maine, Maureen Groden of Southampton Mass, Brian Groden of Warren R.I., Patricia Whitney of Hinesburg Vt., Joan Groden O’Connell of Hadley Ma, and the late Harold M. Groden MD and Harold M. Groden Jr. and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday November 14 from the Ginley Funeral Home 892 Main Street Walpole at 9:15 followed by a funeral mass in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery Malden.
Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-8.
