Bartels – Jane (Hudson) 84, the wife of Robert J. Bartels, died November 10, 2006 in her Boston home at Sophia Snow Place where she lived for the last year.
She was born in New Haven, CT, the daughter of the late Miriam (Merrick) and Herbert H. Hudson. She graduated from Stevens College in Missouri and attended Colorado College.
She lived in Orleans, Mass for 24 years, before moving to Roslindale, MA. In Orleans, she enjoyed gardening, birding, traveling and community involvement working to support Open Space on Cape Cod. Prior to Orleans she lived in Syracuse, NY for 16 years, where she raised her family, taught business education in the public high schools, and supported lower income families.
She was known for working to improve each community she lived in, for her beautiful gardens, her work in Unitarian churches, her interest in travel, and community activity. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Bartels, four sons Andrew Bartels and his wife Iliza Bartels, Jonathan Bartels and his wife Patricia Bartels, Fredrick Bartels and his wife Laurie Bartels, Stephen Bartels, and daughter Jennifer Mulstay and her husband Thomas Mulstay; and 8 grandchildren, Samuel and Kiri, Lisa and Nathaniel, Jamie and Robin, Christopher and Caroline.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Suite 220 495 Old Connecticut Path Framingham, MA 01701.
