Marilyn A. Locke, age 61, of Dedham, died on November 8, 2006 from complications of Ovarian Cancer.
Born in Boston, she grew up in the Roslindale section of the city. She was educated through the Boston Public School System where she attended the Mozart Grammar School, the Washington Irving Junior High School and was a graduate of Roslindale High School, class of 1963.
After graduation, she went to work for the Boston Gas Company. However, after a year she decided to enter into religious life. She joined the Little Sisters of the Holy Family, a French Canadian order of Nuns, whose mission was to staff religious houses, seminaries and diocesan residences with household and domestic support. During her 34 years in the Convent, her major assignments included the Oblate Infirmary in Tewksbury. From which she was re-assigned to the Apostolic Delegation in Washington, D.C. for many years. The second part of her religious life was spent off the West Coast, first stationed at the residence of the Archbishop of San Francisco and her last station was at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Melno Park, CA.
Marilyn took a leave of absence in the late 1980’s to help care for her parents who had difficult health issues. She returned to full secular life in 1988.
She had been employed at the Faxon-Devine Company in Westwood until it closed and more recently at Eveden, Inc., in Readville as a Customer Service Rep.
A funeral mass will be held in the Holy Name Church, West Roxbury, on Monday evening, Nov. 13th, at 6:30 PM. Burial will take place in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham, on Tuesday at 1:00 PM.
She is survived by her 5 siblings, Leo F. of Sagamore Beach, John W. of Braintree, Donald X. of Dedham, Maureen Martin of Walpole and Gerard V. of Dedham. She also leaves 16 nieces, nephews and their families.
Visiting hours will be held in the P.E. Murray-George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Sunday from 3-8 PM. Remembrances in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
