Ann McDonald Steed, 84, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, November 7, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Friday, November 10 at the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, with Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Steed was born February 19, 1922, in Fitzgerald to the late Judge Alex Jackson and Mary Dorminy McDonald. She lived in Fitzgerald most of her life, except during the time her husband was stationed overseas. Mrs. Steed was a homemaker and former Office Manager for Little Beaver Travel Trailers, a company her husband founded. In addition she worked along with her husband in several family businesses. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, former director for the youth Sunday school department and a member of the Genesis Sunday School Class. Mrs. Steed was an active member of several bridge clubs and a former member of the Garden Club. She was a member and past-president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Ben Hill Chapter and a member and past-regent of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Nathaniel Abney Chapter. Mrs. Steed was an active member of the Roanoke School PTA and was instrumental in raising funds to build its cafeteria. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and at the age of 84 finished them in ink everyday.
She is survived by her daughters: Malinda L. McLendon of Culloden and Diana S. Hair of Douglasville; grandchildren: Stacy Hoffman of Culloden, Scott McLendon of Sumter, SC, Joanna Hair of Decatur and Jackson Hair of Douglasville; 4 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, her husband, Basil George Steed, son, Mark Hamilton Steed and 7 brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
