Retired Insurance Broker and Homemaker

Marie J.(McCarthy) Murphy, 84, of Mansfield died on Monday November 6, 2006 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph F. Murphy, Sr. to whom she was wed to for 63 years at the time of his death on July 13, 2005.
Born in Red Island, Newfoundland on March 18, 1922 she was a loving daughter of the late Thomas V. and Elizabeth (Carroll) McCarthy.
Educated in Newfoundland she was a graduate of the Littledale Boarding School in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Mrs. Murphy was an Insurance Broker in Mansfield for 25 years before retiring. She also served her family as a dedicated homemaker.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; Marie was also a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield where she was quite active with the churches ministries. She had made her home in Mansfield for the past 55 years.
She is survived by her devoted children: Barbara A. Stratton of Mansfield, Richard J. Murphy of Pittsburgh, Pa., Teresa M. Murphy and her husband Jan D. Harbutiak of Pawtucket, R.I., Stephen V. Murphy and Michele Petersen of Attleboro, and the late Joseph F. Murphy, Jr. and Charles E. Murphy. Her dear brother and sister; Thomas V. McCarthy of New Jersey and Sheila McCarthy of Quincy and the late Denis McCarthy, John McCarthy and Teresa McCarthy. Her loving grandchildren; Susan Roberts, Deborah Cross, Katherine Stratton, Daniel Murphy, Rebecca Murphy, Judith Murphy, Rachel Brown, Thomas Murphy, Jessica Murphy, John Murphy, Matthew Murphy, and Hope Murphy. Her Cherished great grandchildren; Megan Cross, Alex-Andrea Roberts, Zachary Cross, Christina Stratton, Hilary Cross, Madeleine Polis and Joseph Polis. Her sister-in-law Marie McCarthy of Dedham. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday November 10th at 10:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday November 9th from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
