Mara of Halifax formerly of Brockton Nov. 5, 2006 D. Joseph Mara 80 years. Husband for 53 years of the late Margaret M. (McAuliffe) Mara. Loving father Daniel J. Mara and his wife Elena of Hanson; William E. Mara and his wife Dona of CA; Mary-Jo Deignan and her husband Edward of Halifax; Kathleen A. Rideout and her husband Wayne of Halifax and Bruce T. Mara of CA. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Brother of Shirley Stadalnick of Norwood; Marie Hargraves and Herberta Lyons both of Stoughton and the late James Mara. Special friend of Bob & Diane Bamford of Brockton and Ralph and Edna Hunt of Foxboro.

Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 8:30 am. Funeral procession at 9 am to Our Lady of the Lake Church, Halifax for Funeral Mass at 10 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 pm. Donations in Joe’s name may be made to the DAV at the Brockton VA Medical Center Bldg 22, 940 Belmont St., Brockton, MA 02301.

Obituary

D. Joseph Mara 80 years of Halifax died Sunday morning at the Northeast Specialty Hospital in Stoughton after a brief illness. He was the husband for 53 years of the late Margaret M. (McAuliffe) Mara.
Mr. Mara was born in Brockton a son of the late Daniel J. and Mary (Buckley) Mara, Sr. He was raised in Brockton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School Class of 1944. For the past 20 years he had been a resident of Halifax, previously he had lived many years in Brockton.
During WWII Mr. Mara served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater.
Following his military service he attended and was a graduate of Williams Business College in Brockton.
He retired as a meat cutter for First National Supermarkets.
For many years Mr. Mara and his wife were volunteers for the Meals on Wheels program at Old Colony Elderly Services in Brockton. He had also been a member at the Brockton VFW Post 1046. He enjoyed trips to California to visit his sons.
Mr. Mara was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Halifax and St. Edward Church when residing in Brockton.
He is survived by his 3 sons and 2 daughters Daniel J. Mara and his wife Elena of Hanson; William E. Mara and his wife Dona of CA; Mary-Jo Deignan and her husband Edward of Halifax; Kathleen A. Rideout and her husband Wayne of Halifax and Bruce T. Mara of CA. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Brother of Shirley Stadalnick of Norwood; Marie Hargraves and Herberta Lyons both of Stoughton and the late James Mara.
He also is survived by several nieces and nephews and special friends Bob & Diane Bamford of Brockton and Ralph and Edna Hunt of Foxboro
