WORCESTER____John M. Chiras, 44, of 78 Loxwood St., died Tuesday Sept. 17 in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after a battle with cancer.
He leaves his fiancee, Paula M. Asselta; a daughter, Melissa Sinclair-Nail of Barre; a stepdaughter, Nichole Asselta of Worcester; a brother, Thomas L. Chiras of Gilbertville; four sisters, Pauline M. Dufresne, Linda M. Bandilla, Betty-Ann Bjorkman, all of Worcester and Ruth M. Prunier of Brookfield; two grandchildren and nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Peter Chiras and Ruth E. (Braman) Chiras and lived here all his life.
Mr. Chiras was a self employed roofer many years and worked with Ezold Roofing Co., now known as R & R Roofing.
The funeral will be held on Saturday Sept. 21 from Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward St.,(www.worcesterfuneral.com) with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge St. Burial will follow in St. Johns Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday Sept. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. A planned benefit for John will still be held on Oct. 18 from 6 to 11 p.m. at Main South Post 341 American Legion 1023 Main St. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
