Catherine M. (Ariagno) Sylvia, 88, of Fairhaven died October 31, 2006 at Our Lady's Haven after a long illness. She was the wife of Joseph R. Sylvia, Jr.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Baptista and Maria (Busengo) Ariagno, she lived in Fairhaven most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven.
Mrs. Sylvia was a former member of the Reservation Golf Course in Mattapoisett. She enjoyed sewing, writing poetry travel and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Joseph D. Sylvia and his wife Diane of New Bedford; two daughters, Patricia O'Donnell and her husband Michael of Ocala, FL and Louise Vandal of Mattapoisett; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Ariagno of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, James O'Donnell, Christopher Vandal, Neil Vandal and David Sylvia; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the sister of the late John Ariagno and Arnold Ariagno.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 3rd at 9:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours Thursday, November 2nd from 4-7 PM.
