Robert E. Beal, 79, of Salem, NH died Sunday Oct. 29th at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Salem, NH, the son of the late Dorothy (Gordon) and Guy L. Beal, Sr.
Robert graduated from Woodbury High School in 1945 and from the University of New Hampshire in 1949. He served in the United States Navy during WW II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8546 in Salem, a member of the Spicket Masonic Lodge #85 in Salem, a member of the Military Order of the Cooties of the United States of America PUP Tent N.H.O. 12 Club, a member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees, a member of the UNH Alumni Association and a member of the First Congregational Church of Salem, NH.
Robert retired from the Boston & Maine Railroad in 1978. He was Assistant General Chairman and Local Chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Robert was an avid vegetable gardener and collected license plates from all over the world. He enjoyed spending time with his family, children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brothers Guy L. Beal, Jr. and C. Gordon Beal.

Calling hours will be Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH.
A Funeral Service will be on Saturday at 10 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
