Obituary


NEW BEDFORD -- Richard Reed, age 86 years, of New Bedford, died on Saturday, October 28, 2006, at New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Benoit) Reed to whom he was married for 65 years.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late John and Lena (Tripp) Reed and lived in this community all of his life.

A graduate of New Bedford High School, he was employed for 27 years at Guisti Bakery in sales and then for 18 years was employed at Otis Air Base.

He had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Bedford, enjoyed fishing and boating, loved to play cards and pool, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was also a member of the Newport Elks. Mr. Reed was a devoted family man and always there for them.

He was a veteran of the US ARMY World War II and the recipient of the Good Conduct and Victory Medals, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, both with bronze service arrowhead.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard A. Reed of Newport, R.I., and Robert F. Reed of Bourne; three daughters, Sheila Ann Praisner of New Bedford, Patricia Pimental of Marion and Janice Ellen Faucher of No. Dartmouth; ten grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late John and James Reed, Abbie Crowley and Bernice Baier and grandfather of late Michael J. Praisner.

His private funeral arrangements are with the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford.
