Clara Odell Akers Shaw, 93, of Tifton, formerly of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at Beverly Health Care. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Barry Gordon and Rev. Bill Barksdale will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Don Shaw, Dick McClung, Bart McNeill, Todd Flautt, Jamie Lane, Danny Riggins and Ken Goodwin, will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 3, 2006, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Shaw was born on March 7, 1913 in Marion County, Alabama and was the daughter of William Green Akers and Sophronia Abigail Stanford Akers, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clarence Middleton Shaw, whom she married on July 14, 1934; one son, Clarence Dwight Shaw; one daughter, Sara Lucille Shaw; six brothers; six sisters; one granddaughter and one great grandson. Mrs. Shaw resided in Marion County, Alabama from birth until November 1945, when she moved to Tift County with her husband and four children. She resided in Tift County until January 1995, when she moved to Fitzgerald. She was a homemaker and member of Crossview Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Seekers Sunday School class and Golden Believers, whose members became friends. The family expresses sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dorothy Powell, Corine Faulk and Melba Thompson for their devtion, care and love for their mother.
Mrs. Shaw is survived by one daughter, Clara Nell Shaw Smith of Waco, Texas; three sons, Hugh Shaw and wife, Carole, of Cordele, Hoyt Shaw and wife, Mary, of Tifton and Lynn Shaw and wife, Kay, of Tifton; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
