Funeral services will be held on Thursday for Gerald “Gerry” Silverstein of Revere, formerly of Chelsea. Gerry died on October 30, 2006 after a brief illness. He was 93 years old.
Born in Boston, the son of the late Samuel and Mildred B. (Stearn) Silverstein, he was raised and educated in Chelsea. After graduating from Chelsea High School, Gerry went on to earn his degree in Accountancy from the former Bentley School of Accounting and Finance, now known as Bentley College, in 1932. He was a self employed C.P.A. having offices in Chelsea and Melrose. An active member of the community, Gerry was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Mt. Scopus Lodge in Malden, the Knights of Pythias, and the Massachusetts Society of Public Accountants. He was also an avid sports fan and would often be told that he was a look-alike of Red Auerbach, former coach and president of the Boston Celtics.
Gerry’s wife, Miriam (Berger) Silverstein died in 1990. He was the father of Sheila Fleischer of Sarasota, FL and Bonnie Silverstein of Philadelphia, PA; grandfather of Howard Fleischer of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Melody Spence of Orlando, FL; great-grandfather of Joshua Fleischer; brother of Benjamin Silverstein of Framingham; and uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Florence Goldstein, Phyllis Wiener, Harold Silverstein, and Mike Silverstein. Gerry was also a very close friend to Rita and the late Saul Rotman of Malden.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 12:00 Noon in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. Chelsea. Rabbi Howard Kosovske of Temple Beth Shalom of the North Shore will officiate. Burial will follow in the Agudos Shalom Walnut St. Synagogue Cemetery in Everett.
