Luther Gray, 86, of Tifton, died Saturday, October 28, 2006, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 30, 2006 in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Terrell Roberts and Rev. Phillip Simmons will officiate with burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery. Ray Griner, Vernon Ellis, Ray Gray, Garvey Nichols, Jr., Myron Harper and Damon Harper will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 29, 2006, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Gray was born on January 4, 1920 in Berrien County and was the son of Jimmy Gray and Ella West Gray, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Sapp Gray, who died in 1988; five brothers and five sisters. He was a retired furniture salesman and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was also a member of Tift Avenue Baptist Church.
Mr. Gray is survived by his wife, Wilva Rowe Gray of Tifton; one son, Leonard Gray of Enigma; one step-son, Jerome McNeese of Tifton; one daughter, Georgeann Simmons of Lenox; two brothers, Eugene Gray of Enigma and Carol Gray of Alabama; one sister, Betty Ellis of Tifton; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
