Gilda Clara Burkhalter Huggins, 78, of Tifton, died Thursday, October 26, 2006, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. John S. Gibbs, Sr. will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 28, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ms. Huggins was born on June 11, 1928 in Monroe, Wisconsin and was the daughter of Robert Burkhalter and Minnie Gruen Burkhalter, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Harry Huggins. She was retired from Georgia Vegetable Company as a grader and was of the Lutheran faith.
Ms. Huggins is survived by two sons, Gene Huggins of Tifton and Jerry Huggins of Tifton; four daughters, Jackie Varnador of Ocilla, Rita Thomas of Kissimmee, Florida, Joan Moore of Savannah and Patricia Johnson of Tifton; two sisters, Amy Nelson of Wisconsin and Ila Moe of Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
