Mary R. (Rei) Fernandes, 96, of Norton died on Thursday October 26, 2006 at the Ridgewood Court Nursing Home in Attleboro, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late August F. Fernandes who died in 1973.
Born in Lowell, MA on September 27, 1910 she was a loving daughter of the late Antonio G. and Frances (DeJesus) Rei.
She was educated in Norton schools. Mrs. Fernandes had been employed as a Spinner for several years before retiring at the former Talbot’s Woolen Mill in Norton.
Mary was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. She enjoyed gardening at her home, sewing, and cooking. Her family will always remember her wonderfully prepared meals and how she had a way of making people around her smile. She made her home in Norton her whole life.
She is survived by her devoted sons Augusto “Gus” Fernandes, of Norton, Donald P. Fernandes of Norton and Ronald P. Fernandes and his wife Valerie of Bridgewater. Her cherished grandchildren Jennifer Fernandes, Donald Fernandes and Lil Joe. Also survived by many dear nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her many siblings.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday October 30th at 9:00 A. M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, South Worcester St., Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday October 29th from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
