John W. Hartnett Sr. of Charlestown, died on Thursday October 26, 2006 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended battle with cancer. He was 56 years old.
John was born in Boston, and lived in Somerville and Medford before moving to Charlestown, where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. John enlisted into the United States Navy in 1970 and served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was discharged in 1972. Following his discharge, he joined the United States Postal Service and was a letter carrier at the Waltham Post Office for 24 years. For the past 2 years he was Maintenance Supervisor at the Suffolk County Trial Court House in Boston.
John is the loving companion of Briana McNeil of Charlestown. He is the devoted father of Stacey Schmid and John W. Hartnett Jr. both of Somerville, Jack Logan Hartnett and Greg McNeil both of Charlestown. He is the loving grandfather of Zachary Schmid. John is the beloved brother of Maureen Mulhern, Teddy Hartnett, Michael Hartnett, Eunice Feleciano-Hartnett, Ann Arria and Dorothy Randall.
John's Funeral will be held on Monday October 30, 2006 at 9 am. from The Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Catherine's Church, 49 Vine St. Charlestown at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for John will be held on Sunday October 29, 2006 from 3 to 7 pm. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
