Obituary

FALL RIVER - Joseph G. “Curly” Camara, 83, of 176 Langley St., Fall River, died Wednesday at in Fall River at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Beatrice (Bertholde) Camara for 58 years. He is also survived by a Daughter: Jody Athanasiou and her husband Nicholas of Worcester, MA.; Two Grandchildren: Michael and Christina; One Step-Brother: Joao A. Miguel, Jr. of Somerset, MA.; and Several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Henry Camara and step brother of the late Manuel Michael.

Born in Fall River, the son of the late Enrique Gaspar Camara and the late Maria (Correia) Camara Miguel. He was also the Step-Son of the late Joao A. Miguel. He was a life long resident of Fall River and was a machinist for Brown & Sharp, C.O. Hoffacker Co., and Botwinick Brothers, and a self-employed contractor and Master carpenter for many years before retiring. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II with rank of Tech. Sgt. He served in the European Theater and was a Purple Heart recipient. He also received 5 major battle stars, l arrowhead D-Day and Unit Citation. He was a member of St. Michael Church.

His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 No. Main St., Fall River, Ma. on Saturday at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael Church, Essex St., Fall River, Ma. at 10:00 A.M. Internment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River, Ma. Calling hours Friday 4-8 P.M.
