Mariah J. (Talley) Harrison, 83, of New Bedford Sunday October 22, 2006 at Taber Street Nursing Home peacefully in her sleep after a brief illness. She was the wife of Edmund F. Harrison.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of the late Maraquita (Johns) and Frank Talley, Sr., she lived in New Bedford for most of her adult life.
She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church.
Mrs. Harrison was formerly employed by the Star Store and the New Bedford Public School Department until her retirement.
She was a member of the Martha Briggs Educational Club and the Order of Eastern Star, J.W. Hood Chapter #12. She was a founder of a Girl Scout Troop in the West End Community. Active in the Civil Rights movement, she participated in the March on Washington in 1964.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jennifer Groebe Rodriguez and her husband Richard of Oakland, CA; three stepchildren, Geraldine Harrison of Columbia, MO, Edmund and George E. Harrison, both of New Bedford; a brother, George T. Talley of Los Angeles; a sister, Naomi L. Fisher of Oakland; a grandson, Christopher Rodriguez; and several cherished nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
She was the widow of George T. Groebe, and sister of the late Frank Talley Jr., Paul B. Talley, and Ruth Walker.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her family will receive visitors from 10-11AM prior to the service.
