Richard J. Grant,83, died suddenly, Friday October 20 at St.
Vincent Hospital in Worcester after being stricken ill at his home.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Marie T. (Guilfoyle) Grant, a son James J.
Grant and his wife Patricia of Worcester, five daughters Cathleen M.T. Grant
of Worcester, Maureen J. Meriano of N.Y., Eileen F. Terrill and her husband
Richard of Shrewsbury, Colleen L. O'Brien and her husband Paul of
Charlton,and Christine M. Grant of Clayton, Calif, 13 grand children
Christina, Andrea, Kathryn, Elizabeth, John, Justine, Richard, Kenneth,
Patrick, Lisa, Jillian, Brian and Aimee, two great grand children Kaleah and
Haley, many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Clement and
Henry Grant and sisters Lillian Winters, Marine Flynn, Winifred Daigneault.
Mr. Grant was Deputy Commissioner of the Dept. of Public Works on Worcester
where he worked for 43 years, retiring in 1987.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of James and Marine L. (Laviolette) Grant.
He graduated from Commerce High School, and served in the U.S. Army during
WWII. He was the former executive director of the Leicester Housing
Authority for 40 years. An avid gardener, he enjoyed reading, the ocean,
vacations and especially his grand children.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL
HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius-St.
Jude Church, 489 Pleasant St., Leicester. Burial will follow in St. John's
Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are Monday, Oct. 23 from 5 to 7p.m. In
