Salem: Donald R. Speicher, age 81 of Salem, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at his home in Salem. He was the husband of Doris (Sharrock) Speicher with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Alvin and Edna (Rapp) Speicher. A veteran of World War II, he served in the North Atlantic with the Navy aboard the USS Develin, USS Stockdale and the USS Baker. While in the service, he met Doris, married and moved to Salem following the war. Mr. Speicher first worked as a mechanic for the former CBS Hytron, and was later employed as a painter for the Salem Hospital until his retirement in 1987.
Donald was very active in youth sports events and coached for both the Salem Little League and the Pony League. He was an avid Bowler and golfer and was a member of the Salem ‘Muni’. He was also a member of the Salem V.F.W. Witch City Post 1524.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son: James D. Speicher and his wife Diane of Beverly, a brother Charles Speicher and his wife Cecilia of Salem, a sister-in-law Gladys Gagnon of Salem, and 3 grandchildren: Ashley, Lisa and Jamie Speicher all of Beverly. Mr. Speicher is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
