Obituary

David Neil Dalton, 73, a life-long Winchester resident, died at his daughter’s home in Tewksbury following a long illness. Born and raised in Winchester, he was the son of the late Andrew and Hazel (Gunn) Dalton.

He was a graduate of Winchester High School with the class of 1952 where he was co-captain of the baseball team and a member of the hockey team. He was a sports enthusiast throughout his life and was always active in local sports endeavors.

Mr. Dalton joined the Winchester Fire Department in August 1956 as one of the top three highest scores on the exam. He was appointed Captain in the Department on May 25, 1964 by the Winchester Board of Selectmen, setting a record in the local dept. at the time as the youngest (30 years old) firefighter to reach a high-ranking position.

David was a former member of the Aberjona Post VFW, the Winchester Fireman's Relief Assoc., Winchester
firefighters Local and the Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church.

He was the devoted father of David N. Dalton, Jr. and his wife Maria of Reading, Brenda Vollmar and her husband Chris of Tewksbury, Jane Bedard and her husband Biron of Sanbornton, NH and Julie Dalton of Danvers. He was also the dear brother of Ann Marshall of AZ, Eleanor Boermeester of Malden, Marylou Cournoyer of Woburn, Elizabeth Blackey of NH and the late Andrew Dalton. Mr. Dalton also leaves behind his grandchildren Allison, Matthew, Jennifer, Marissa, Eric, Mark and Caroline and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held in the Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church, Church and Dix St., Winchester, on Tuesday, October 24 @ 10 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting Hours are Monday 4-8 PM in Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester.
