Harold L. “Hank” Wetherell, 100, a lifelong resident of the Chartley section of Norton died on Friday October 20, 2006 at the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home in Norton, MA
Born in Norton on July 22, 1906 he was a loving son of the late James B. and Cora A. (Wetherell) Wetherell.
He was educated in Norton schools and was Valedvictorian of his graduating class. Mr. Wetherell was a retired Fire Chief for the Town of Norton. He served in that capacity for 40 years till retiring in 1970. While serving as Fire Chief he founded the Wetherell Paint Co. in Chartley.
Hank was a member of the Chartley United Methodist Church in Norton. He was a life member of the Norton Historical Society. He was a former member of the Bristol County Forest Warden’s Association.
Mr. Wetherell was a longtime member of the Board of Directors at the former Norton Savings and Loan (Now the Co-Operative Bank) and till the time of his death was an advisory director for the bank.
In high school Hank was considered to be an exceptional baseball player and was an avid sports fan his whole life. Hank always kept busy; weather it was attending to his famous tomato garden for which he was known to plant between 200- 300 plants annually or helping out at Wetherell’s after his retirement where his specialty was fixing screens and repairing broken glass.
An extremely humble person Hank could always be counted on to help out others without looking for recognition
He was the dear brother of the late Mildred E. Wetherell. Hank is survived by his many loving friends.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday October 25th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday October 24th from 4-7 P.m. at the funeral home.
