Obituary

Russell L. Hiller, 69, of Mattapoisett died September 15, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital.

He was the son of the late Lewis and Cecile (Lareau) Hiller.

Mr. Hiller was born in New Bedford, raised in Marion and lived in Atlanta, GA before returning to Marion in 1963 to carry on the family business, Hiller Bros. Cranberries. He retired from the cranberry business 20 years ago and moved to Mattapoisett, devoting his time to his family.

Mr. Hiller was a communicant and an active member of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.

He was an avid tennis player.

Mr. Hiller was a 1951 graduate of Tabor Academy where he was an outstanding football player and captain of the tennis team. He was awarded the Hamilton Thyer outstanding student award. He was a 1955 graduate of Cornell University where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity.

He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy for 2 years before going to work at State Street Bank in Boston.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Valery Torres of Fairhaven, Brigette Burke of Madison, Wisconsin, Stephany Hiller of Hong Kong and Rebecca Hiller of Fairhaven; a sister, Nancy Hiller Jones of Mattapoisett and Jekyll Island, GA; a nephew, Robert Hiller Malm of Alexandria, VA; a niece, Kristina Bryan of LaGrange, VA; 6 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter.

He was the former husband of the late Sheila (Collins) Hiller.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Thursday, September 19th at 9 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Wednesday, September 18th from 5-8 PM.

Interment Evergreen Cemetery, Marion.
