Ruth Pauline (Coats) Clark, 88, of Silas Deane Road, passed away at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital on Monday, October 16, 2006 with her family at her bedside.
She leaves two daughters and a son, Ruth Pauline Herrick, Joan Marie Jones and Joseph Alfred "Jack" Clark III and their spouses, Richard Herrick, Jack J. Jones and Ernestine Clark, all of Ledyard, a brother-in-law, George P. Clark of Ledyard, eight grandchildren, Richard Herrick, Deborah Hileman, Virginia Martic, Craig Jones, Tina Policarpo, Joseph A. "Joal" Clark IV, Jeffrey A. Clark and Jessica A. Clark; twelve great-grandchildren, Richard Hileman III, Steven Martic, Joey Policarpo, Christopher Hileman, Morgan Martic, Rebekah Hileman, Jacob Policarpo, Harley Herrick, Joseph A. "Jace" Clark V, Rachael Herrick and Joal Andrew "Drew" Clark, Cody Jeffcoat and one great-great grandchild Sydney Hileman.
She was predeceased by her husband, J. Alfred Clark, and three brothers, Ansel W. Coats, Clifton T. Coats and George D. Coats.
Mrs. Clark was born in North Stonington on January 11, 1918, daughter of the late Allen Ansel Coats and Nellie Hendrick (Stedman) Coats.
She worked for the United States Post Office for 27 years. She was a member of the North Stonington Grange, a 4-H Club Leader in the earlier years; she worked in the Ledyard Center School kitchen, as a volunteer serving hot lunch, when her children were going to school.
She had her own band, which played for square dances at the fairs in the area and at the Ledyard Fire House every Saturday night, and also played for weddings and bar mitzvah. She graduated from Wheeler High School.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 5-8pm. Her funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 10am. Burial will follow at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard.
