TEWKSBURY - Elizabeth F. “Betty” (Dyment) Cleary, R.N., age 83, died early Tuesday
morning, Oct. 17, at her son’s home in Dracut, following a courageous eight month battle with
cancer. Mrs. Cleary was the wife of John T. Cleary, who died in 1996.
She was born in North Billerica on February 19, 1923, a daughter of the late Howard J. and
Katherine (Kennedy) Dyment. She had resided in Tewksbury for the past five decades.
She was an active member of St. William’s Parish community, as a member of St. William’s
Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, a church Lector, Eucharistic Minister, an active volunteer, and long
time friend of Lois.
She was a graduate of the Lowell General Hospital’s School of Nursing in 1944, and went on to
work at the Lowell General Hospital, St. John’s Hospital, the Bedford Veteran’s Administration
Hospital and Tewksbury Hospital.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, John W. Cleary and his wife Ruth J. (Bioren)
of Dracut, Thomas E. Cleary of Lowell; four grandchildren, J.D. Cleary, Michael Cleary, Thomas
E. Cleary Jr., and Sara (Cleary) Rayball; two sisters, Grace and her husband Donald McCallum of
Tewksbury, Pauline and her husband Leo Silva of Hampton Beach, NH; a sister-in-law, Connie
Dyment of Tyngsboro; special friend Arlene Rayball and her son Anthony of Lowell; many loving
sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and numerous friends in the church community.
She was also sister of the late Howard Dyment, Russell Dyment, and Charles Dyment, Virginia
Giuffreida, Madeline Evans, and Hazel Norwood.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, Oct. 20, in St. William’s Church,Tewksbury. Burial followed in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell. Memorials to the Cancer Center at Lowell
General Hospital, c/o Development Office, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854 will be
appreciated.
