Robert G. “Bob” McCabe of Wellesley died on Saturday October 14, surrounded by his loving family, at the Metro West Medical Center in Natick. He was 84 years old. Born in Kittery, Maine he was the son of the late A. Raymond and Marion H. (Morrow) McCabe. He was a graduate of Wellesley High School. Bob entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served with the 79th Infantry Division. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1945. He worked for the family business, McCabe Brother Builders in Wellesley while attending night classes at Wentworth Institute. He also worked at Hood Rubber before working as a craftsman/cabinet maker for Framingham Union and Leonard Morse Hospitals. Bob was well known and respected for his finish carpentry skills. He was a member of Norfolk Lodge A.F. &A.M., Shriners, Wistaria Chapter No. 138 O.E.S. and Lt. Manson H. Carter VFW Post 2498. Beloved husband for 57 years of Barbara F. (Gould). Father of Robert G. Jr. and his wife Katherine of Broad Brook CT and Scott E. and his wife Kelli-ann of Sandwich. Brother of Thomas M. and his wife Ann Jayne of Del Ray Beach FL and the late Raymond W., David E and William E. McCabe. Brother in law of Helen McCabe of Centerville and Anne McCabe of Wellesley. Proud grandfather of Meghann, Paul Anthony, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Thomas, Justin and Dylan. Also survived by several nieces nephews and many friends. A Funeral Service will be held at the Christ Episcopal Church, 1132 Highland Avenue Needham on Wednesday October 18th at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Tuesday from 4-8 PM. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Needham Cemetery.
