Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday at 8:30 am with visitation to 9:30 am. Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Mary, Stonehill College, North Easton at 10 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Gloria’s name may be made to The Italian Educational and Cultural Interchange Fund, payable to Stonehill College, Director of Development, 320 Washington St., N. Easton, MA 02356.
Obituary
Ms. Gloria Distasi died Wednesday at her home after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Leonard and Angela (Settanni) Distasi. She had been a life long resident of Brockton. She was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1946 and graduated magna cum laude with a BA from Stonehill College Class of 1981 after completing nine years in the Division of Continuing Education. She was a member of Beta Xi, Stonehill chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society for continuing education students. She was a founding member of the society and the Evening Division Student Government at Stonehill. Ms. Distasi was also a member of Phi Alpha Theta, Nu-Rho Chapter and founded and endowed the Italian Educational and Cultural Interchange Fund.
While attending Stonehill she was employed by New England Telephone for 43 years in area offices. She retired in 1989 as a staff assistant in the Brockton office.
Gloria had been a member of the Stonehill College Century Club, Presidents Club, The Brockton Public Library Foundation, Inc., Brockton Italian Scholarship Club, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Menninger Foundation and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by a sister Josephine Putignano of Brockton and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the the late Marie Lalli and close and dear friend of the late Alfred E. “Babe” Brugnoli.
