Obituary

A. Bruce Mahar, a lifelong Needham resident, died Wed. Oct. 11, 2006 at Briarwood Healthcare in Needham after a long illness. He was 80
Mr. Mahar served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the occupation of China during WW II and was discharged as a Corporal. He then attended and graduated from Boston Trade School. He worked for many years as a custodian in the Needham Public Schools, many of which were at the Broadmeadow School. Mr. Mahar was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Church in Needham and a member of choir of the Needham Retired Men’s Club.
Mr. Mahar is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Rachel (Ciano) Mahar, his children Bruce Mahar and his wife Mary of Franklin, Karin Adams and her husband Ken of London, Ontario, Janice Somerville and her husband Wayne of Dallas TX, David Mahar and his wife Cathy of West Newton and Sandra Kew and her husband Barry of England. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren.
Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave. Needham on Sat Oct 14 at 9 AM and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church Needham at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Fri from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place on Mon Oct 16 at 1 PM in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Needham.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. Mass Chapter, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472 or St. Joseph’s Church 1382 Highland Ave. Needham, MA 02492.
