Leroy E. Monteiro, 70, of Brandon, Florida, formerly of New Bedford died Tuesday October 3, 2006 at home. He was the husband of the late Marie A. (Santos) Monteiro, who passed away on July 17, 2006.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Lydia (Monteiro) Araujo, he had lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Brandon two years ago.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Monteiro was formerly employed as a corrections officer at MCI-Bridgewater until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include three daughters, Sheree Anacleto, and her husband Edward "Toby", of Brandon, Kim Pina, and her husband Tyrone, of New Bedford, and Trudy Monteiro of Ashburn, VA; four sons, Robby Monteiro, Wade Monteiro, and Mark Monteiro, all of New Bedford, and Kevin Monteiro, and his wife Kristine, of Dartmouth; two brothers, Donald Araujo of New Bedford, and Norman Araujo of New Hampshire; two sisters, Lois Barros of New Bedford, and Marlene Ramos of Orlando, FL; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. His family will receive visitors at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday from 7:30-8:30 AM prior to the Mass.
