Obituary

Dartmouth – Valentino “Val” Catanho, 76, of N. Dartmouth died at home surrounded by his loving family on October 7, 2006. He was the husband of Penny S. (Souza) Catanho and former husband of Beatrice (Silva) Burdine of Long Beach, CA.

Mr. Catanho was born in New Bedford, son of the late Vincent and Omblina (Oliveira) Catanho. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He resided in Oakland, CA most of his life, living the past 9 years in N. Dartmouth. The Union Pacific Railroad employed him as an engineer until his retirement in 1987. During his time in Oakland he also owned and operated Catanho Tree Service for many years. He frequented Kasper’s Hot Dogs in Oakland where he had many friends. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, playing cards and he always had an amusing story to tell. He loved his dog Skylar Marie.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by a son: Gary James Catanho of Long Beach, CA; a sister: Mary Monge of Oakland; 2 brothers: John Catanho and his wife Juanita of Oakland and Frank Catanho of Hayward, CA: several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; and many friends.

He was father of the late Vincent J. Catanho and brother of the late Antone Catanho and Manuel Catanho.

Visiting hours on Thursday, October 12, 2006, 5-8 P.M.

Funeral service at 10 A.M., Friday, October 13, 2006 at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.

Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, N. Dartmouth.
