Obituary

C. Donald Stebbins, 82, of Winchester, died at home, on Monday, October 9. Born in Milton, MA, he was the son of the late Ralph G. and Margaret (McDonnell) Stebbins.

Mr. Stebbins was raised and educated in Milton, and graduated from Milton High School with the class of 1942. After graduation he attended the University of Maine at Orono, where he met his future wife, Louise E. “Betty” (Perkins), and was a member of the SAE Fraternity.

His studies were interrupted by his call to serve his country as a Navy Quartermaster during WWII. Upon his discharge from duty, he returned to UMAINE to continue and complete his course of study.

He and his wife Betty made their home in Winchester since 1958. They raised their three children while Donald worked as a mechanical engineer designing HVAC systems for Stebbins-Duffy Co. in Wakefield.

In his spare time, Donald was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and he enjoyed skiing, tennis and golf. He was also a life Deacon at the First Congregational Church in Winchester.

He was the loving father of Martha S. Burnham of Kingston, NH, Bruce H. Stebbins of Hadley, MA and Emily S. Carbonetti of Albany, VT, and brother of the late George E., Ralph G. Stebbins, Jr. and Mary C. Gallagher. Mr. Stebbins was the dear grandfather to 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. A Memorial Service will be held in the First Congregational Church, 21 Church St. (on the Common), Winchester on Friday Oct. 13th at 1PM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the National Ataxia Foundation, 2600 Ferbrook Lane N., Suite 119, Minneapolis, MN 55447-4752. Late veteran WWII US Navy.
