Obituary

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 for Arnold I. Siegel. Mr. Siegel died on October 9, 2006 at the Braemoor Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Facility in Brockton after a lengthy illness. He was 79 years old.

Born in Chelsea, the son of the late Samuel and Bella (Tatilman) Siegel, he was raised in Chelsea and educated in the Chelsea Public Schools. After high school, Mr. Siegel joined his father in his family business, Samuel Siegel Inc. of Chelsea until he enlisted in the United States Army on October 19, 1945 at Ft. Banks, MA. He served with the 7092nd Area Service Unit at Vint Hill Farm Station in Warrenton, VA. During his service, Mr. Siegel served as the battalion librarian. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Tec 5 on October 30, 1946 at Ft. George G. Meade in Maryland. Mr. Siegel received the World War II Victory Medal. Upon returning from military service, Mr. Siegel rejoined his father and helped to operate their cotton, burlap bag, and nail business. He was a member of the American Legion Chelsea Post 34 and a Mason. In his retirement, Mr. Siegel worked with a travel agency in New Hampshire for a number of years. A true lover of warmth and the sun, Mr. Siegel enjoyed any activity that involved the beach. He was a voracious reader who spent a great deal of time reading business journals and the business section of the major newspapers. Mr. Siegel was a dedicated family man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. One of the qualities that Mr. Siegel will be fondly remembered for was his friendship with so many people.

The father of the late Ted Siegel, Mr. Siegel is survived by his beloved life-partner, Eleanor Brown of Brockton; his devoted daughter, Heather Siegel of Revere; his loving sister, Eleanor Goldberg of Peabody and brother Sidney Siegel of Boynton Beach, FL; his cherished grandchildren, Kristin, Krystal, and Alexander and great-granddaughter Trinity; his dear former wife, Frances Merlino of Peabody; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Siegel’s funeral service will be held in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. (Cary Sq) CHELSEA on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Noon. Rabbi David Klatzker of Temple Ner Tamid, Peabody will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mishna Cemetery, 232 Fuller St. Everett. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Frances Merlino, Peabody on Wednesday following the burial until 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 2-8 PM.
