LOWELL—Vincent P. Funaro, 80 years old died Wednesday September 11th, at Saints Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Claire (Andreoli) Funaro, who died in September of 1989.
He was born in Springfield, MA, on December 28, 1921, a son of the late Antonio and Carolina (DeBenedetti) Funaro, and was educated in the Lowell Public School System. He was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1939.
Mr. Funaro served in the United States Army during World War II, and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Stars. He was employed for over 25 years as a Wire Drawer by General Electric, of Lowell, until his retirement.
He was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church and held membership in the St. Vincent de Pal Society of that parish and the I.B.E.W. Union.
Surviving him are his children and their spouses: Vincent P. and Marilyn Funaro, of North Andover; Ralph E. and Mari Funaro, of Dracut; Stephen P. Funaro, of Seattle, WA; Marian and William Silk, of Lowell; Francis M. and Nancy Funaro, of Lowell; and Claire A. and Joseph Reis, of Lowell; fourteen grandchildren: Gregory and Lauren Funaro, of North Andover; Anthony, Julia and Marc Funaro, of Lowell; Daniel, Mary, Anna and Rachel Silk, of Lowell; Henry Funaro, of Lowell; Caroline and Elizabeth Reis, of Lowell; Marisa and Lauren Calianno, of Dracut; sisters-in-law: Sr. Mary Perpetua, GNSH, of Jackson, Heights, NY; Margaret and Laurence Ferris, of Methuen; and Mary Andreoli, of San Diego, CA; also several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 PM on Sunday, September 15th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered Monday morning, September 16th, at 11 AM at ST. MARGARET’S CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association; 20 Speen Street; Framingham, MA 01701-4688.
