Mr. Robert W. Benson of Dedham died Sunday, October 8, 2006, at the Caritas Norwood Hospital, he was 82. He was the beloved husband of Esther (Porazzo) Benson.
Born in Roxbury in 1923, he was the son of the late Axel and Lillian Benson. He has been a longtime Dedham resident.
A World War II United States Navy Veteran, Mr. Benson was a member of the Dedham American Legion, Post 18. He was a graduate of Boston University, class of 1949, and worked as an accountant for the Prudential Insurance Company of Boston for many years until his retirement.
He was the devoted father of Robert W. Benson, Jr. of Cohasset, Charles A. Benson of Lexington, David A. Benson of Basking Ridge, NJ, and John E. Benson of Webster, NY. He is also survived by ten grandchildren. He was the brother of Alfred Benson of Stoughton, Olive Keough of Plymouth, Anna Macleod of West Roxbury, Barbara Edwards of PA, Patricia Dykens of Norton, and the late Lillian Drengberg, Frank, Leo and Andrew Benson.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham, on Wednesday at 8:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. Susanna’s Church, Dedham, at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
