Frances I. Wood, 95 of Auburn, NH, died Friday, October 6, 2006 in the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home, Fremont, NH. Mrs. Wood was born in Berwick, Nova Scotia, Canada on July 16, 1911, a daughter of the late Isaac and Annie (Freeman) Illsley. She was a resident of Auburn for most of her life. Mrs. Wood was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, class of 1929 and a graduate of Plymouth Normal School, class of 1931. She taught in the Bunker Hill School, a one-room schoolhouse in Auburn. She was a tax collector for Auburn for over 10 years during the 1950’s and into the 60’s. She had also worked for Gulton Industries in Manchester, NH as an electronics assembler. Mrs. Wood was a member of the Longmeadow Congregational Church, Auburn. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, playing Whist and was a great cook. With Pinkerton Academy being a very important part of her life, during the last few years she was the Class Correspondent for The Alumnus.
She is survived by two sons, William Wood of Auburn, Stanley Wood of Auburn, a daughter, Elizabeth Tolbert of Stow, MA, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul S. Wood in 1999, a son, Allan in 1956 and a brother, Charles Illsley.
Visiting hours were held from 6-8pm on Monday, October 9th, 2006 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2:00pm in the Longmeadow Congregational Church, 4 Wilsons Crossing Road, Auburn. The burial followed in the Village Cemetery in Auburn. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Longmeadow Congregational Church, 4 Wilsons Crossing Rd., Auburn, NH 03032.
