Ruth C. (Calderara) Libby, 80, died Thursday October 5th, in the Kindred Northeast Specialty Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton, after a period of failing health. She was wife of Melvin Libby for 63 years.
Born and raised in Abington, daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Bourne) Calderara, she was educated in Abington schools, graduated in 1943.
She was a life long resident of Abington, member of United Church of Christ ,a Charter member of the Abington VFW, member of Friends of the Abington Library, a volunteer for Brockton, area Assoc. for Retarded Citizens and a longtime volunteer with the Good Friday Walk. She was also a Town Registrar of voters for, the Town of Abington.
She started the Abington Habitat for Humanity and very active in the Girls and Boys Scouts of Abington.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting especially ,bowling and the beach.
In addition to her husband of 63 years , Melvin, she is survived by 3 sons and two daughters, Robert Libby, Marjorie Libby, Cynthia L. Vaillencourt all of Abington, Kenneth Libby of Whitman, James Libby of NC; sister of Alice Dunham of Carver, Emma Zeoli of IN., and Edna Shire of RI.;step-sister of Albert Mills of West Bridgewater; also 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Minnie Waitt and Carleton and Charles, Jr. Calderara and the grandmother of the late Kendra Coburn.
Funeral service will be held Monday October 9th at 11:00 A.M. in the United Church of Christ, 10 Bedford Street- Abington, MA.Burial will follow in the Mt.Vernon Cemetery, Abington,MA. Visiting hours Sunday October 8th 3-7 P.M. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, (Route 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman.
