Hughes and his wife Tamara of Darien, CT, Peter J. Hughes and his wife Deborah of Blacksburg, VA and Macallister E. Hughes of Norfolk. He also leaves eleven grandchildren. He was the husband of the late Alice D. (Savaria) Hughes.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday at 8am. Memorial Mass in St. Edith Stein Parish/St. Edward Church at 9am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater. A Memorial Gathering will be held Monday 5-8pm at Conley Funeral Home.

Thomas A. Hughes, 69 years, died Wednesday morning at Brockton Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Edward and Florence (Nixon) Hughes. He was raised and educated in Belmont, was a graduate of Belmont High School, Boston College and received his Masters Degree from Cambridge College. He had been employed for 35 years by the Brockton Public School system where he had been a history teacher at Brockton high School. He had been a basketball coach for the girls teams at Brockton, Cardinal Spellman and Westwood High Schools and Stonehill College. Tom was the longtime voice of Brockton High School Football games and the Raynham Dog Track. He was a tireless fundraiser for Brockton High School athletics and the Jimmy Fund. He enjoyed his summer home in Little Compton, RI and loved to follow the Boston College men’s and women’s basketball program.
He is survived by his wife Joette E. Robin, three sons, Christopher S. Hughes and his wife Amy of Onset, Daniel P. Hughes and his wife Tamara of Darien, CT and Peter J. Hughes and his wife Deborah of Blacksburg, VA, one daughter Macallister E. Hughes of Norfolk, 11 grandchildren, two brothers William Hughes of Illinois, Joseph Hughes of Madeira Beach, Florida, four sisters Florence Mcdonald of Norwell, Agnes Rielly of Belmont, Mary Foley of Ormond Beach, FL, Claire Walcovy of Larchmont, NY and many nieces and nephews.
He was the husband of the late Alice D. (Savaria) Hughes and brother of the late Rita, Edward, Margaret, Paul and John Hughes.
